PLAYA DEL CARMEN

I have finally been to Cancun after 6 years of telling myself I was going to go one day, and I made it happen for my birthday! Well technically I didn't stay in Cancun city just because when I was doing my research it seemed like an all inclusive resort city and I didn't want to stay at an all inclusive resort because I heard from multiple people that the food is mediocre. Sooo straight from Cancun Intl Airport I took a shuttle bus down to PLAYA DEL CARMEN, which costed about 18$ for a 45 min ride. Surprisingly the beach wasn't crystal clear like the images that pop up when you google playa del carmen but after talking to the locals to get clear blue waters the best time to go is in April & May.

One of Mexico's oldest delicacies are chapulines which are fried grasshoppers. Considered to be a healthy snack and are packed with protein, this can be found from street vendors or in high end restaurants. The first time I tried it was at LA CASA DEL AGUA in one of their appetizers which was served with guacamole and tostadas.

While in playa I decided to check out XENSES which is a senses amusement park a.k.a. mindf*ck amusement park! I paid online which was $63.00 and spent half a day there.

They give you lockers to put your belongings away and the entrance wristbands also serve as a sensor for picture taking in front of each attraction. One of the attractions was walking through a tunnel which was pitch black. When walking through the tunnel, your hands are running against the walls, walking through different ecosystems such as the desert, the river and the jungle. For Example the desert had sand and prickly plants on the floor, the walls had bare branches, wolves howling in the distance along with crickets. The air was hot and dry. During this experience, I freaked out because it felt as if I was really in those atmospheres. Bottom line is everything that you see in that park is not all what it seems, there was lemonade that was coming outta trees and walking up a hill when it was actually going downhill! I definitely was getting dizzy there

Right after Xenses, I decided to check out a cenote which is a underwater cave. CENOTE JARDIN DEL EDEN which translates to the garden of Eden, was a breathtaking view. They are open from 8:00am-5:00pm and are closed every Saturday. It costed about 100 pesos to enter and about a 8 minute walk from the highway.
